Here is a recording of key messages from our Spring '24 English Subject Leader Update. Topics include The Reading Framework, feedback from KS1 and KS2 moderations and activities to support vocabulary development.

This course, which gives an overview of SEND, is for teachers who are new to the SENDco role or new to teaching in a special school. It would also be useful for those teaching assistants who are working with SEND pupils. The content includes:

• SEND Code of Practice
• The graduated response to SEND 
• Provision mapping
• Top tips for teaching

This course will ensure that teachers, support staff, students and volunteers working within a primary classroom have the grammar  subject knowledge needed in order to teach and support pupils. It covers word classes, sentence structures, tenses, punctuation and other important aspects of grammar. 

This course will provide teachers, and support staff, with an overview of phonics and how to teach it. It covers:

• key terminology
• enunciation
• progression
• lesson structure
• practical ideas for teaching

Poor spelling remains an issue in many primary schools despite the emphasis placed on it in the National Curriculum. 

The effective teaching of spelling involves teaching strategies and rules, rather than just lists of words. This training explores the use of a range of spelling strategies and suggests practical activities teachers can use to support teaching and learning.
